A Brief History
The club was formed in 1974, when the opportunity was provided to join the Lincolnshire League. The team were initially based at the Dolphin pub in Yaddlethorpe, with the football being played at Frederick Gough School. The club moved to its current home in 1983. The senior side experienced its most successful period during the 90's, winning the Lincolnshire League in 1989/90, 1990/91 and 1991/92. Other successes included Cup winners in 1987, 1989 and 1990. In 2000 the first team entered the Central Midlands League and gained promotion to the Supreme League in its first season. After two years at this level, the team find themselves back in the Premier League, but with an ambition through its youth policy to quickly regain the 'lost ground' on their way up the non-league promotion ladder. The club has for many years supported the local Scunthorpe & District leagues on both Saturdays and Sundays with a number of individual team successes, the Youth team winning two cup competitions and promotion to Division 1. This season the club will field two teams on Saturdays and three teams on Sundays. The club has been very successful with its U18 teams in the Lincs Intermediate League, having won the League in two of the last three years. Perhaps a repeat is on the cards for this year In the year 2000, the club junior and senior clubs amalgamated, which clearly demonstrated that players starting at Under 6 with the club could be encouraged to stay with the club for all their footballing years. The club boasts six teams in the Caparo Junior League and five teams in the Kalson Junior League, many of them having achieved success at both local and national level. Last season saw the introduction of girl's teams into the club as part of the developing scene. Three teams competed in the South Humber Ladies League, all of them finishing runners up to the more experienced team at Scunthorpe United. For this season we shall have four teams in the league hopefully with improvement to challenge for honours. Recently we have formed a Bottesford Tigers Ladies team who will compete in the Yorkshire and Humber League against Nationwide League club's ladies teams. This will of course give the girls progression through to play with the club for many years. The club's proudest moment was in 2003 when they were awarded first the FA Charter Standard Club and then became one of the 83 FA Charter Standard Community Clubs. The club has had to work hard to meet all the FA criteria and is only just starting to reap the rewards. Extensive coaching schemes throughout the junior teams with help from our link clubs of Sheffield United and Leeds United is helping with the recruitment of better players and improvement with the existing ones. Already improvements in league positions have been identified and there is every hope that this will continue during the current season. Our links with local schools have become stronger, and the club is soon to liaise with the Lincs FA to make further progress with the coaching of school children at a younger age, with a further emphasis on recruitment of girl players.More of our older junior players are becoming involved in coaching and refereeing, obviously achieving that number one priority in football - enjoyment. This massive involvement in grass roots football and its development will surely see the provision of enhanced facilities to support the same. The club's management committee will ensure that we reach our aims.
